NEPA PALAVA IN NIGERIA

As a Nigerian, I think it's safe to say that of all social and welfare amenities needed and most cherished by the people, electricity also known as light tops the list
Electricity for an average Nigerian can be a source of joy or sadness depending on the quantity of it they get. However it is very difficult to come across a Nigerian that will express complete joy over the condition of electricity in this country. The joy of a Nigerian can be further clouded when it "rains". Yes! Once it rains you just have to pray to God that the light is still in its normal state because most times the rain does a brain reset on the light to become worse.

There is a popular joke in this country that once it rains the electricity company popularly referred to as NEPA (despite the constant change of name😂) will use four or more days to dry the wires. From this joke is however a hint of truth as I have experienced three full days of blackout after it rained. Okay simply put it that "the rain and electricity in Nigeria are sworn enemies". This beautiful combo is usually desired by many but sadly this is a rare luxury that anyone hardly gets in fact when this happen there is always that fear lurking around that the light is about to Gbish Gbish(spoil) as I would say, lol.

The constant instability of electricity in Nigeria has given most of us an uncommon skill that I'm not sure can be found in any other country of the world and this is the skill to determine when the electricity will be restored based on when NEPA took the light, Chai Naija!!! This skill is possessed by a vast majority as it helps you to utilize yourself well till NEPA decides to act normal.

Quick experiment : Have you ever gotten home after a long day and you ask someone that was around when they took the light so that you can calculate when the light will be restored, if Yes then congratulations you got the skills in you. On a serious note anyone that decides to start a power bank business in this we Naija will make serious money o, maybe I should start sef abi?

When NEPA decides to take the light, two things are prone to happen. The first is that those with Genarators quickly put it on since in most cases it takes NEPA a couple of years to bring the light back while the second thing that happens is for those without Gen and this is just to seek the face of the lord in fervent prayers so that the light can come back on quickly.
Those without Generator don't only suffer the pain of not having light but also the pains that come with listening to the roaring of an unserviced Gen for hours just to supply their owners with electricity. Well it's no news to anyone that Generators in Nigeria are overworked due to the instability of our electricity and it's only through the grace of God that you will find a smooth sounding Gen in this country.

When Tekno said in his song "Rara" that "Generator wan tear my ear" I realized that this is the situation a good number of people find themselves. The noise that comes from those neighbors Gen is enough to make you intensify your prayers to God to minister to NEPA quickly but can we really blame those neighbors???

NEPA who can otherwise be referred to as kill joy take no chances in inflicting pain with the light in their custody. Maybe they derive fun by doing this ni o I don't know, maybe they didn't have access to toys as kids ni o I don't know but what I know is that people suffer a lot as a result of poor electricity in this country. NEPA bill nko that one is another yawa las las only God can save us and stretch his healing hands to our electricity and power distribution company.

Feel free to share your views concerning the state of electricity in your area....... Kisses
