I will be right to say that some people have been benefitting greatly from this lockdown. Some have however been gaining these benefits by following "due means" and others in a not so good way of massively exploiting people. Among those that have decided to follow the latter path are the Almighty Market Women. Those who possess the power to cater for the food needs of the populace. Well, out of the numerous reasons why man labors, the quest for satisfying his material condition comes first. In other words Man Must Whack.
Studies have shown that humans tend to use up more energy when doing nothing than when actually doing something and hence they tend to eat more in order to replenish the energy lost. Even the government realizes the essential spot feeding takes in a society by allowing people that deal with food related trade sell to the people, but our market women are highly capitalizing on this and are cashing out big time at the expense of the purse of the consumers.
It has been 28 days of not making money for a lot of people and yet they are still struggling to feed themselves and their families but some market women are hellbent on frustrating this movement. The reality of this is that the lockdown is not the same for everyone and every family. Yes the lockdown has helped in terms of mending broken homes, helping people to discover talents they never knew they had and so on, but I will tell you that a good number of people are finding feeding well during this period a problem.
The Market women are also not helping, it's as if they have connived to make bullion van money by force by fire during this lockdown. The prices of food has gone out of control even those foodstuff that are not imported. But for real people really need to fear God haba!!! Some foodstuffs are now suddenly scarce which I know is the handy work of these market women in a bid to further inflate the prices of food stuff.
I don't know if this has ever happened to someone here during this lockdown but I went out to buy something one day and I went back the second day to buy that same thing only to be told by the woman that the price of that stuff has increased. I was really shocked and was like "Madam calm down small nah we both know that you didn't exhaust your wares the previous day so why the doubled price" Mama just shrugged and was like if I don't buy it someone else will and that is where the problem lies, these people know what they are doing and this is no case of ignorance at all.
I believe that this period is a call to awaken the humanitarian spirit in us all and for us to help each other in any possible way we can. Maybe these people are not aware that by being truthful and transparent with the prices of foodstuff they are also helping people out, but no they have decided to double and triple food prices thereby making things difficult for people most especially those that were not even financially buoyant even before the lockdown.
With all that has been said, I seriously hope that these people change their ways and start acting right. Exploiting vulnerable people just to make money isn't the right way to go, not now or even later.
